Psychology

The Bachelor study of psychology is focused mainly on the general psychological disciplines and on the basics of support branches. The study concentrates on acquisition of elementary psychological knowledge and abilities. The graduate from the Bachelor study gains an integral summary of knowledge conforming to the current knowledge of psychological sciences and the state of psychological practice. The acquired knowledge authorise them to continue studying at the second level of the branch, of a similar branch, or enable them to apply this knowledge in various areas of social life, in the area of social, public administration, social-charity, personnel management, in the area of schools, etc. One of the key features of the graduate is their adaptability with regards to the changing contexts of psychological practice and the ability to acquire fast the new findings and skills. They are capable of lifelong extension of knowledge and skills in their specialisation.

The Bachelor study of psychology is formulated in the traditions of emphasising the theoretical and methodological principles of psychology as of a modern science, leads the students to gradual identification with the mission of psychologist as a representative of a profession that helps people, and moreover its graduate has the opportunity to study psychology based on Christian orientation.



Prospects of graduates

The study programme is practically oriented and guarantees competence for the graduates on the current labour market in the following professional areas and work environments: media, publishing houses, cultural institutions, positions in public relations, advertising, newspapers and magazines, radio and television, public art schools, libraries, cultural departments of municipalities and upper territorial units (public administration), non-profit organisations, state administration, foreign representation service, press offices, etc.

Conditions of admission

acquirement of full secondary education or full secondary vocational education, obligation to respect the catholic spirit of the university and faculty, for the study programmes psychology, journalism, philosophy, history, political science, English language for commercial practice, German language and culture, teaching the subject German language and literature, teaching the subject history in combination - taking the precondition exam (see the precondition exams part), other study programmes - without precondition exam, when creating the final order of applicants, the results from the secondary school study and the results of the leaving exam of the applicant are taken into regards.

General information on the admission exam

It is required to enclose the following to the application: structured CV, verified copies of secondary school reports (from first to fourth year), verified copy of the leaving exam certificate, in case of applicants that acquired their secondary school education abroad also the decision on recognition of the foreign document on secondary school education for academic purposes (continued study in the Slovak Republic) and translation of marks into the Slovak classification system - equivalence (for more information see the website of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic: http://minedu.sk part recognition of education documents). In case of applicants taking the leaving exam in the academic year 2009/2010 the deadline for sending the verified copy of leaving exam certificate and the verified copy of school report of the fourth year is by 14 June, 2010. In case the documents are not sent by the given deadline, the enrolled applicant will be considered as an applicant that failed to meet the admission conditions for study. The documents shall be sent to the following address: Catholic University in Ružomberok, Faculty of Arts, Study Department, Hrabovská cesta 1, 034 01 Ružomberok. It is necessary to paste the fee payment slip on the third page of the application (without the payment slip the application will not be registered). The admission procedure fee shall not be returned. Applicants for the study of journalism shall attach to their application 3 examples of journalistic work (e.g. student newspaper that they cooperated in, published articles, or essay or comments on the current topic in the company). Confirmation of application registration and information on the following process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or classical mail. The deadline for meeting the admission conditions for the study: 21. June, 2010. The written decision on the admission procedure result will be sent to the applicants within 30 days as of verification of meeting the admission conditions for the study. The written decision is delivered by strictly private delivery to the applicants. The basic rules of the admission procedure for the study programmes at the FA of the CU for the academic year of 2010/2011 are published on the faculty website (http://ff.ku.sk).
