Prospects of graduates

Pedagogy (Bc.) – graduates from the study programme Pedagogy (Bachelor degree) are qualified for the following jobs: educating staff (tutor, leisure time teacher): in leisure time education they know the child and youth education issue, are able to cope with educational problems at schools and other educational facilities focusing on better spending leisure time within different target groups; educating staff (social education worker): they are familiar with social education with educational aspects within and outside public education system, and with individual approach to target groups of the unemployed, socially disadvantaged, culturally disadvantaged, socially unadaptable, drug addict, disabled children and youth.

General information on the admission exam

General information about admission procedure

Completed secondary education and secondary school leaving exam are the prerequisites for invitation to entrance exam. For programmes requiring talent exams, invitation to the second part of entrance exam is conditioned by applicants' performance in the said talent exam. The result of the first part of the exam shall be decided upon by the Dean according to recommendations of entrance exam commissions.

The contents of both parts of the entrance exam shall be detailed in syllabi that will be sent to all applicants and made public at www.pdf.umb.sk.

Talent exams for applicants for Teaching of Subjects arts and music are practical exams in respective subjects within the scope of subject matters covered by secondary education.

For interfaculty programmes,conditions of admission for the part of the programme not provided by the UMB FP shall be set and communicated by the faculty concerned.

Applicants applying for more than one major within the Faculty of Pedagogy are required to submit one application per major and pay respective fees separately.

Applications for both full-time and part-time course within the same major by the same applicant are not admissible.

Applications must include all required attachments listed in the application page 3 and payment of the fee for the admission procedure. The fee is not refundable. Incomplete applications shall be returned to sender. Changes to majors and study programmes are inadmissible after February 27, 2010. Eventual alternative and additional dates of entrance exams shall be decided upon by the Dean with regard to the actual situation.

secondary school leaving certificate and weighed average of Bachelor degree study scores certified by competent Study department for Bachelor course and for Master course respectively are to be sent to the Study department of the UMB FP.

Maximum score to be earned in the entrance exam is 50 points per study programme (100 points for entrance exams for two study programmes). Minimum score to be earned is 25 points per study programme. Scores earned are indicated in the application form. Applicants shall be admitted by their scores ranking and with regard to planned number of students to be admitted. Applicants are communicated the scores on the day of entrance exams at the faculty and the scores shall be then made public at www.pdf.umb.sk within 24 hours.

Entrance exam rules apply to both, full-time and part-time, course types. The Dean of the UMB FP has the right to decide to cancel the entrance exam in the study programme where insufficient number of applicants have applied.

The Dean of the UMB FP has the right to decide to cancel a study programme with regard to actual situation in the respective academic year.

Applicants shall be admitted without entrance exam if number of applicants is lower than intended number of students to be admitted.

Provided that entrance exam is cancelled and the number of applicants exceeds the intended number of students to be admitted, admission criteria shall then regard applicants' secondary school study scores average (including the Secondary school leaving exam) for Bachelor study and weighed average of Bachelor course scores (including Bachelor exam score) for Master study.

Passed entrance exam is a condition to admission unless the Dean has decided otherwise.

The Dean shall appoint entrance exams commissions to control the admission procedure. Chairs of the commissions are in charge of smooth course of exams and shall prevent third parties from any interventions. The Vice-Dean for Pedagogy and chiefs of departments guarantee that tests are kept confidential.

In order to guarantee objective admission procedure and confidentiality of the tests, the competent within departments concerned shall prepare different variations of the tests for each major, the number of variants being greater than the number of exam days or sessions.

The Dean decides on admissions with regard to suggestions of the entrance exams commissions and to applicants' ranking.

The Dean shall decide (within University Rector's appeal procedure) on adjustment of numbers of students to be admitted for either of course types and for different majors as actual situation may require and as the faculty's capacity may allow.

Applicants shall be informed about the verdict within 30 days after exam procedure has finished. Pursuant to the Statutes of the UMB FP, applicants have the right to file an appeal against the Dean's negative verdict within 8 days since notice delivery.

admission procedure for international students is identical to that applying to citizens of the Slovak Republic and the Dean either follows the recommendations of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic or adopts individual approach.

Eventual alternative and additional dates of entrance exams shall be decided upon by the Dean with regard to the actual situation.

In the case that the number of admitted applicants who register for the course is smaller than intended number, the Dean has the right to submit a suggestion to the Rector to admit more applicants according to their entrance exam scores and subsequent ranking.

The entrance exams preparation, course and assessment are governed by entrance exams organisation and technical rules drafted by the Vice-Dean for Pedagogy after the given academic year at UMB FP has been scheduled.
