Language and culture of Slovakia

The study programme reacts to the current social conditions in relation to the dynamics of labour market, considers the necessity of flexibility, adaptability and mobility within professional application of the university graduates. Emerging from the theoretical and methodological base of the linguistic and pedagogic potential, the programme has ambitions to fill the existing gaps in social exploitability of knowledge from the basic and applied linguistic research in a broader context - through a broader knowledge base it concerns a lap/intersection of linguistics towards the linguistically based human education and education on its culture. In the suggested intentions it concerns adaptation of progressive linguistic cognition and thinking in cultural and social relations with the aim to adapt the professional profilation of students in their efficient application on the labour market. The graduates from the programme gain in the language element a system of knowledge of part-time and full-time history of Slovak language, rules of contemporary Slovak language, methods and conditions of its functioning, its relations to Slavic and non-Slavic languages. They will learn to exploit the knowledge from system-linguistic, socio-linguistic and pragmatic-linguistic research of Slovak language. In the literary part they gain specialised knowledge from the theory of literature and from the history of Slovak literature from the early middle age up to the present, completed with the knowledge from the area of context relations of Slovak literature with the world and Czech language, as well as with the knowledge from literary critics, art translations and its reception and from interpretation of literary-artistic text.
