  1. To develop the skills and habits leading to a reasoned and critical knowledge of the past and to master the competence to interpret the content of knowledge in a professional manner.

  1. Acquire a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the political, economic, social and cultural history of human society and master the theoretical and methodological foundations of historical scholarship.

  1. Identify, locate and evaluate sources of information. Critically access primary and secondary literature. Adequately evaluate historical argumentation and historical narrative.

  1. Create more complex historical explanations, analyze and interpret historical evidence, and apply relevant methods and theories of historical research. To ask critical questions about the past and to comment independently and creatively on historical events and processes.

  1. Apply historical knowledge, skills, and habits to problems of the contemporary world. Adapt flexibly in a changing environment and deepen habits for lifelong learning in professional practice.

Graduate Profile

The graduate of the Master's degree programme in history (single-discipline) will obtain a full university education in the field of studyhistorical sciences.The graduate of the second degree of the university study in the field of single-discipline history will be able to independently orient themselves in individual historical periods and in selected problems of history. He/she can independently search, collect and sort sources and literature, in which he/she is well oriented. Can take oral and written positions which can be argued at a scientific level. Can work independently or as part of a team on assignments and projects in which he/she is able to use the results of research in other related fields. In addition to an interdisciplinary approach, he/she can use new approaches to problem solving based on a comprehensive knowledge of history.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition of admission for the study in the second level study programme (Master study programme) is completion of the first level study programme (Bachelor study programme). Other admission conditions for the Master study programme are: obligation to respect the catholic spirit of the university and faculty; teacher study programme (teaching subjects in respective combinations): the final order of applicants will be created based on the weighted study result average during the Bachelor study and the results of the state exam (in total 100 points with the following internal breakdown: weighted study result average - max. 80 points, results of the state exam - max. 20 points); study programme philosophy: presentation of the diploma work project (to be sent together with the application) - maximum number of acquired points 100 (it is necessary to gain at least 60 points for admission); study programme history: presentation of the diploma work project (it shall be submitted not later than 7 days prior to the date of the entrance exams) - maximum number of acquired points is 100 (it is necessary to gain at least 60 points for admission); entrance exam (in total 100 points). If the admission procedure involves an entrance exam for the given study programme, it shall take place in June 2010. If a larger number of applicants meet the admission conditions for study of the given study programme, only those applicants will be admitted who presented by the highest rate of study capability according to the study admission conditions.

General information on the admission exam

The application must be accompanied by:

a) certified copies of documents of graduation (bachelor's diploma, diploma supplement and state examination certificate), if it concerns applicants who have not completed the bachelor's study programme at the Faculty of Arts KU in Ružomberok,

b) in the case of applicants who have obtained their higher education abroad (outside the Czech Republic), it is necessary to submit a decision on the recognition of the foreign document of education no later than on the day of enrolment,

c) confirmation of payment of the fee, in the case of a traditional paper application, to be pasted on the 3rd page of the application form, in the case of an electronic application, to be sent as an electronic attachment. Without proof of payment, the application will not be registered.

Acknowledgement of the application form and information about the further process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or conventional mail.

Deadline for verification of fulfilment of admission requirements: no later than 30 August 2023

A written decision on the result of the admission procedure will be sent to applicants no later than 30 days after the verification of the fulfilment of the admission conditions. The written decision shall be delivered to the applicants by hand.
