Philosophy

The graduate is able to follow new findings in the constantly developing philosophy subjects. During the study day acquired the most important knowledge, abilities and skills necessary for independent consideration and evaluation. They Master the professional contents of subjects of individual philosophy parts as a specific area of human knowledge, and they are able to actively work with this knowledge and exploit it. They are capable of lifelong extension of knowledge and skills in their specialisation. They have adequate knowledge of the methods of argumentation, as well as of the methods of the most significant philosophic schools and trends, such as phenomenology, analytical philosophy, pragmatism.



Prospects of graduates

The graduates from the Master study programme philosophy are capable to perform according to the achieved level of profession corresponding activities of team or independent creative (conceptual) employees in institutions and facilities, such as governmental and non-governmental institutions and organisations with humanistic orientation, organisations and institutions of the third sector, institutions dealing with empiric identification of the state of society (e.g. by public opinion research), cultural and social institutions, foundations, civic associations, editorial offices of specialised and social magazines, publishing houses of specialised (socio-scientific) literature, political institutions, state administration (the area of "human resources"), mass media, management. The graduate from the FA of CU may also continue with the master study of the two-year study programme philosophy.

Conditions of admission

acquisition of full secondary education or full vocational secondary education, obligation to respect the catholic spirit of the university and faculty, for the study programmes psychology, journalism, philosophy, history, political science, English language for commercial practice, German language and culture, teaching the subject German language and literature, teaching the subject history in combination - taking the precondition exam (see the precondition exams part), other study programmes - without precondition exam, when creating the final order of applicants, the results from the secondary school study and the results of the leaving exam of the applicant are taken into regards.

Conditions of admission without the entrance exam

It is necessary to attend a precondition exam.

Applicants that pass the precondition exam are included in the following part of the admission procedure in which upon creation of the final order of applicants the results from the secondary school study and the results from the leaving exam of the applicant are taken into regards.

Applicants that do not pass the precondition exam have the possibility to re-register their application to another study programme without precondition exams according to the faculty offer.

General information on the admission exam

It is required to enclose the following to the application: structured CV, verified copies of secondary school reports (from first to fourth year), verified copy of the leaving exam certificate, in case of applicants that acquired their secondary school education abroad also the decision on recognition of the foreign document on secondary school education for academic purposes (continued study in the Slovak Republic) and translation of marks into the Slovak classification system - equivalence (for more information see the website of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic: http://minedu.sk part recognition of education documents). In case of applicants taking the leaving exam in the academic year 2009/2010 the deadline for sending the verified copy of leaving exam certificate and the verified copy of school report of the fourth year is by 14 June, 2010. In case the documents are not sent by the given deadline, the enrolled applicant will be considered as an applicant that failed to meet the admission conditions for study. The documents shall be sent to the following address: Catholic University in Ružomberok, Faculty of Arts, Study Department, Hrabovská cesta 1, 034 01 Ružomberok. It is necessary to paste the fee payment slip on the third page of the application (without the payment slip the application will not be registered). The admission procedure fee shall not be returned. Applicants for the study of journalism shall attach to their application 3 examples of journalistic work (e.g. student newspaper that they cooperated in, published articles, or essay or comments on the current topic in the company). Confirmation of application registration and information on the following process in the admission procedure will be sent to applicants by electronic or classical mail. The deadline for meeting the admission conditions for the study: 21. June, 2010. The written decision on the admission procedure result will be sent to the applicants within 30 days as of verification of meeting the admission conditions for the study. The written decision is delivered by strictly private delivery to the applicants. The basic rules of the admission procedure for the study programmes at the FA of the CU for the academic year of 2010/2011 are published on the faculty website (http://ff.ku.sk).
